After graduating from the University of Louisville undergrad and Medical School, I did an internship and residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. In 1973 I married a native Houstonian, Glenda Danburg. Later that year we moved to Philadelphia for a fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. I had a Berry Plan deferment which allowed me to spend the next two years at Fort Knox rising to the rank of Major and the title of Chief of Anesthesia and Operating Room Services, Ireland Army Hospital Fort Knox. My aptitude was fine but my attitude, similar to Trapper John’s of the TV show MASH, was not appreciated by some of the brass. My son, Seth August, was born at Fort Knox a few weeks before we moved to Kansas City for my first “real job” at Menorah Medical Center. Two years later my daughter, Emily Dawn, was born, and a few months after that we moved back to Houston to be near Glenda’s family.

I have been on the active staff of The Methodist Hospital as a partner in Greater Houston Anesthesia for the past 34 years. In January 2013, I stopped working weekends and taking night call. Pseudo retirement. Both my children live within a few miles of my home. My son, a computer consultant, owns his own business. My daughter, a licensed registered dietician specializing in diabetes education is married to Jonathan Lepow and is the mother of our grandson, Benjamin Ethan. I am enjoying watching him grow and being a very proud PopPop. Glenda and I celebrated our fortieth wedding anniversary in April. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, playing golf and bridge, and swimming.

I was lucky to be in Louisville when the Cards went from the Elite Eight to the Final Four. Glenda and I celebrated our anniversary on the same day that Louisville won the championship, what a great day! GO CARDS!

I am excited to see my friends and be at our 50th reunion…. see you there.
