After graduation, I attended WKU for a short time, married, and had one child (Michael). After several years I divorced, returned to work and began a long and rewarding career in banking.

In the spring of 1986, I married Larry Kruse who retired from AT&T just prior to his death in 2002. I continue to work as a Construction Lending Officer and Interior Designer for our new bank branches. I have a beautiful one-year-old granddaughter (Madeleine) and two teenage step-granddaughters.

My favorite pastimes include cooking, decorating, and spending time with family and friends.

I “did my time” as a social theorist, civil rights activist, musician, actor, playwright, columnist for a weekly, and “60’s radical.” (I even had a pony tail!) I was an active participant in the noteworthy historical atrocities of the late 20thy century. I co-parented two children (one 32, the other 13), had one child who was severely brain damaged and died at age 9, was divorced and remarried. My wife is a mathematician who is a medical school professor at Tufts. I spend part of the summer in Maine and I learned how to cross country ski at age 42. I practice Iyengar Yoga each day and don’t have enough hair for a pony tail.

Here’s an excerpt from my “Short Bio”:

Throughout my legal career, I have divided my time between teaching and practice, practice and theory. As a committed political person I have attempted to blur the boundaries between progressive activist, teacher, scholar and lawyer.

Starting in 1971 as a clinical teacher in Chicago while a Reginald Heber Smith Fellow at the Northwestern Legal Assistance Clinic, I represented tenants, alternate institutions as well as prisoners, gangs, community groups and members of the Black Panther Party.

Upon moving to Boston in 1972, I was a staff attorney at Project Place Legal Services, a community group in the South End where I represented poor people as well as advised progressive community organizations, with particular concentration in the area of mental health, housing law and patients rights. While at Project Place, my book Communes, Law and Common Sense was published in 1974.

In the mid-1970's, I was the Regional Vice President of the National Lawyers Guild and was the Chairperson of the Massachusetts Chapter for two terms. In 1977, I was a member of the first delegation of Western lawyers who were invited to study the Chinese Legal System and consequently wrote and lectured about socialist theory and legality. I was selected the Massachusetts Chapter’s “Lawyer of the Year” in 1998 and am currently a member of the Board of the Massachusetts Chapter.

From 1975 to date, I have practiced law as part of a community law office in Cambridge, Massachusetts, representing tenants, workers, community and political groups. Much of my past legal work has been in pursuing privacy and discrimination claims on behalf of members of Local 26 of the Restaurant Workers Union. As lead counsel in an action filed by Hotel Workers against their employer, I recently won a large settlement for the invasion of the privacy of male workers at the Boston Sheraton who were secretly videotaped in their locker room.

Another part of my activity has been as a lawyer for persons engaged in acts of civil resistance pertaining to issues of disarmament, peace and justice and I have successfully incorporated international law defenses in many of such cases.

Not only have I practiced law, but I have shared my enthusiasm and commitment with students. I was the Director of the Legal Studies program at the Goddard-Cambridge Graduate School in the mid and late 1970's where I taught community activists how to conjoin an awareness of legal tactics into their political goals.

After teaching legal theory at U. Mass-Amherst, Jurisprudence at Northeastern Law School, and completing my LL.M. at Harvard, since 1979 I have been a Supervising Attorney and Clinical Instructor at the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau, assisting second and third year law students in their representation of poor people in benefits, housing and family law. I have also been a teaching member of Harvard Law School’s Trial Advocacy Workshop and have recently assisted Legal Aid Bureau students in the formation of a Wage and Hour Practice Group.

In 2008, with the assistance of law students. I drafted anti-predatory lending legislation which is currently pending in the Massachusetts legislature.

I met my wife Ann, at a Derby party in 1970, and we married in December the same year. Can you believe Scott White was my best man?!

We have two sons, Scott, the oldest, lives in Pittsburgh with his wife Rebecca and our first granddaughter, Nicole. Todd, our second son lives in Louisville and is working on his career.

I went to Miami of Ohio as a chemistry major & emerged with a BA in economics.

I was married at age 21 and had two sons before my 25th birthday. That marriage was doomed from the start, but I met the real love of my life in 1971 and we have been married now for 33 years. Her name is Mary Ellen and she was born in County Galway Ireland, having moved to the Philadelphia area (where we live) at age 11.

Explaining to her parents how she ended up with a divorced Jew from KY with two kids was quite a challenge. But we got custody of those kids and she raised them to be fine, not so young anymore men, and they have given us four beautiful grandchildren aged 4 to 8.

My career has been in corporate finance. I owned my own investment banking firm for 15 years and now work in mergers & acquisitions for one of my former clients.

My lifelong passion has been sports of all kinds, especially golf and skiing, which we enjoy with family and friends.

Worked at the US Department of Justice and as an Assistant United States Attorney in Alexandria, Virginia until 1975; moved to Louisville to practice law with emphasis on commercial litigation. Am still with the same firm and have no current plans to retire.

We live in a pre-Civil War home in Pewee Valley demanding of time and money. Hobbies include reading, gardening, keeping up with kids and one grandchild.

After graduating from Ohio University with a degree in Elementary Education, I taught in Cincinnati, Ohio for two years. My allergies became increasingly worse, so I moved out to Arizona for relief and a change in lifestyle.

I wound up working as an accountant for a couple of different companies, so I eventually returned to college to take accounting courses and sat for the CPA exam.

In the meanwhile, I married a Phoenix native and moved to the suburb of Tempe, AZ. My husband and I have hiked and biked for many years until recently, due to my degenerative spinal problems.

In 1980 and 2000, we toured China with my husband’s adoptive Chinese family. I am currently working part time for a nonprofit and my husband is retired. Our children are two parrots named Miki and PeeWee who we love very much.

I attended Transylvania University in Lexington Kentucky for two years before transferring to the University of Louisville School of Business majoring in Business Administration.

I worked in my Dad’s supermarket business until 1978 when I started my own business. I eventually developed a twenty-store chain of convenience food and gas stores called Short Stop Food Marts. I am active in statewide affairs for the Kentucky Grocers Association as a current board member and having served as Board Chairman.

I married my high school sweetheart, the former Pam McCardwell (Class of ’64). We have three sons, Jeff (JP), Matt, and Jason; three daughters-in-law and ten grandchildren.

I am now semi-retired since Matt decided to stay with the family business. Pam and I enjoy traveling and vacationing in Destin, Florida and Vail, Colorado and attending U of L football and basketball games. We are active members of Southeast Christian Church under the watchful eye of Don Waddell. My special interests include Downhill Skiing and Model Railroading.

I started out as a Kindergarten/First grade teacher at Roosevelt Elementary in Louisville’s west end. After 7 years doing that I attended Spalding College (now Spalding University) and in 1979 I received my MS in Library Science. I was a school librarian until 1989 when I became Coordinator of Children’s Services at the Louisville Free Public library. I resigned that position in 1997, and since that time I have been “Self-unemployed, living off the fruits of my wife’s labors.” It’s the best gig I’ve ever had.

I married Sherry Beyer in 1974 (Seneca, class of 68). Prior to our marriage I legally changed my last name to Jacobson-Beyer so she is now Sherry Beyer Jacobson-Beyer (grin).

In 1980, we adopted our son, Keith, who was 8 years old. He is now living in Fairhope, AL, where he is a financial planner (stock broker) with Wacovia. His wife, Jenny, is a marine biolgist with the Army Corps of engineers. They have one child, Ethan (3). We also have a standard poodle, Rusty. He is the 5^th standard poodle we have had over the years.

I’m a long time volunteer for Louisville’s public radio stations and between 1999 and 2007 I edited and wrote for Tune In their newsletter for volunteers. I also write a column (Notes From the Motherboard ®) for the local Macintosh user group.

One of my hobbies is creating web pages. I’ve got my own web page www.harryjb.us and I created the web site for the reunion. I also created a web site for a friend of mine who is a freelance writer and another site for a horse racing consortium http://charliehorseracing.com.

In additon, I am a volunteer for Kentucky Homefront, a not-for profit radio show hosted by singer/songwriter John Gage. I produce the programs for the monthly shows and I maintain their web site www.kentuckyhomefront.org. The show is broadcast Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. on WFPK 91.9 (one of Louisville’s three local public radio stations).

Sherry and I have a tandem recumbent bicycle and, weather permitting, we ride once or twice a week. This year, we drove to New York with our bike and rode in the 5 boro bicycle ride through the streets and boros of New York City. What an incredible experience!

Sherry and I love to travel. In the fall of 2004, to celebrate our 30^th wedding anniversary, we took a riverboat cruise on the Douro River in Portugal.

In 2005, I began studying Spanish and since that time Sherry and I have traveled to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, Costa Rica where we lived with a local family and attended Spanish School, Peru where we visited and lived with a family and only one person in the family spoke English, and Chile where we lived with a family and attended Spanish school. I was a pre-med major in college, but back in the sixties women were rarely accepted to medical school if they were married. Wave (Wavey Townes (Seneca-class of '62) and I had started dating again, first dating back in the Seneca years, and I did not apply to medical school but married in the summer of 1967. I finished a masters while he went to law school. I taught for a few years before our daughter and later our son were born.

Running became a real passion for me in the 70’s, and after running a marathon in 1982, which was something I thought I could never do, I began to think—could I still go to medical school? I bought the MCAT book and studied secretly for a year before I had the confidence to announce my decision to apply to medical school. As our daughter put it, our whole family then went to medical school. Certainly, without their support, particularly Wave’s, I could not have done that. I’ve been in practice 16 years now and love it.

Our daughter, Courtney is a lawyer, married to a lawyer and they have three children (ages 8, 6 and 4). Our son, Will, has just finished his masters in architecture. Wave and I enjoy traveling, gardening, and hiking, and I still run every day (at least I call it that).

I graduated from Mary Baldwin College in 1967 with a major in Spanish and Art History. Later I went to U of L and took alot of art courses, and received a degree in Interior Design. In 2001, I went to New York University and obtained a certificate in Appraisal Studies. I currently have my own appraisal business, though I am taking a break from it to paint and work on a book about a pilgrimage, backpacking trip I took on the Camino de Santiago, in Spain.

Currently, my passions are painting, contemporary art, and travel; and seeing my adult kids. My daughter is an archaeologist, who sometimes lets me visit her when she is working on a Mayan site in Central America. She sort of lives my "unlived life."
